ABOUT US

Our Story

Franco-Métis siblings, Jérémie and Janelle Wookey are a producing / filmmaking team born and raised on the Canadian prairies. They got their start at ages 10 and 12 with the arrival of a home-video camera and the dawn of iMovie which were used to create everything from talk shows to intense fictional action thrillers.

As young adults, their first independent documentary, Mémére Métisse garnered national attention, premiering on opening night of the 2008 ImagineNATIVE Film Festival in Toronto and airing nationally on CBC, Radio-Canada and APTN. After a few years spent working in news and production series with CBC / Radio-Canada in Winnipeg, the two launched their production company, Wookey Films Inc. in 2013.

They've since produced over 65 hours of broadcast and digital content in French, English and Indigenous languages for Radio-Canada, CBC, APTN, TV5, Unis, AMI Télé and BRAVO, picking up a Canadian Screen Award nomination, a Banff Rockie Award and 7 Prix Gémeaux nominations along the way.

Janelle and Jeremie credit their creative talents to a bloodline laced thick with the richness and resilience of the Métis, whose joyous nature and passion for storytelling, they believe, have secured their continued survival as a people. They are beyond proud to see Wookey Films as a part of that story.
