WFI WINS ROCKIE AWARD AT 2022 BANFF WORLD MEDIA FEST

Janelle & Jérémie are thrilled to announce they have taken home a Rockie Award for Best Short Non-Fiction for their piece ‘A Nation and Her Mother’ which tells the 400 year history of the Red River Métis in a 6 minute, one take shot. The piece aired as part of APTN’s Indigenous Day Live broadcast and was also part of Manitoba’s ‘Manitoba 150’ celebrations which marked the 150 anniversary of the provinces founding.

Janelle and Jérémie would like to thank the amazing folks at Animiki See and Manito Media for heping bring the piece to life. They’d also like to express thanks to Jean Teillet, author of The North-West is Our Mother, the definitive history of the Métis people which inspired the piece. Jean played a key role as a consultant on the script and as a descendant of Riel himself her participation in the project made it all the more special for us and for our crew.

Special kudos to Matt Schween for his incredible work DP’ing the piece, to Casey Gibb for research and Denise Darling on development.
